FAQ

What happens during a session?

We talk about what’s happening for you, your hopes, your struggles and your goals. Sessions normally run for either 55 mins however if you are facing more complex concerns 85 minutes sessions are available at your request.

Counselling is a therapeutic and non judgemental conversation that allows you to share your experience and develop a higher level of awareness of the situation so that you can move beyond it. It allows you to explore options and develop new skills for addressing life’s challenges. Because I know that you are expert of your life I do not provide advice instead a safe and supportive space is created for you to discover your truth and decide upon the best way to integrate this knowledge into your daily life.

What kinds of concerns do people seek counselling for?

Common reasons why people have chosen to see me:

  • Anxiety, Depression and Stress
  • Insomnia
  • Panic attacks
  • Infertility
  • Addiction
  • Communication and Assertiveness Skills
  • Work related stress and unemployment
  • Transitioning into new parenthoodpeople-1492052_640
  • Illness, Grief and loss
  • Anger
  • Relationship issues, separation, divorce
  • Finding the right relationship
  • Personal growth
  • Self esteem, Confidence and Self Compassion
  • Tired of putting up with what’s not working

How often shall we meet?

That is up to you, I may make a recommendation depending upon your circumstances but again I believe that following your inner wisdom is key to your success. Some people see me weekly, others fortnightly or monthly and some people as needed.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. Whatever is discussed is held in confidence however if there is a concern for your or another’s physical safety then under the ACA code of ethics I must take action to support your welfare or any other person who may be in danger. If this is a concern I will discuss this with you prior to taking action wherever possible.

Any personal details are held securely and I consider the content of counselling conversations sacred and treated accordingly.

Do I need a referral?

No.

Can I claim a rebate through Medicare or private health?

At this times rebates are not available. I have adjusted my rates accordingly so that out of pocket costs are comparable to what you would invest with a psychologist. Some of the considerations that I have heard raised by people considering a mental health plan is the labelling that is necessary to be eligible for Medicare or Mental Health Plan rebates.

It is my professional opinion that labels often hold people back from moving past their diagnosis. The unnecessary stigma and sometimes shame attached to these labels can stifle peoples success for months, years even a lifetime.

I see the transformational pain that encourages people to seek me out as a blessing in disguise. The development of practical skills, high level awareness, improved ability to cope and discovery of how to thrive despite challenge is a rite of passage that we are all entitled to. Instead of depersonalizing this growth with labels we should be embracing and celebrating these true life achievements.

What do I have to do to prepare for a session?

Ientrepreneur-593357_640t can be helpful to have an intention for each session however quite often we simply sit and discuss what is present and relevant for you and the process unfolds from there. As I consider your challenges I provide therapeutic frameworks to help you interpret your experience, we practice skills to enhance your resilience and gently integrate new ways of being to support you in achieving your goals and aspirations.

Do you offer Skype or Telephone sessions?

I appreciate that it can be difficult at times to get to clinic appointments and so I am available for Skype or Telephone sessions on Tuesdays and Fridays 9am-5pm. Bookings are essential.

How do I get started?

Give me a call or drop me an email to see whether we both feel that the ‘fit’ is right. I genuinely appreciate the deep level of trust necessary to open yourself up to inner change. Let’s talk and then you can decide if working together is right for you. Sometimes this first essential step in trusting and following you own inner guidance.

Whatever has drawn you here, trust that, take that leap of faith and don’t let another opportunity pass you by to break free from whatever is weighing you down.

I thank you in advance for sharing this sacred privilege of self discovery and I look forward to seeing you flourish….. Emiline
